Linking context to family feeding practices among families with preschool children in the Kanien'kehaka (Mohawk) community of Kahnawa:ke, Quebec. This study is examing social practices of family feeding with families of preschool aged children in the Kanien'kehaka (Mohawk) community of Kahnawake. In particular practices related to acquiring food for the family, family food preparation and preschoolers' eating habits are being studied. The Collective Lifestyles framework (Frohlich, Corin & Potvin, 2001; Frohlich, Potvin, Chabot & Corin, 2002) which uses the concepts of social structure, social practice and agency to theorise how health behaviors in context are a collective experience, is guiding the research. Analysis will focus on how how features of context shape family feeding practices, as well as how feeding practices reinforce or transform the family feeding context. This work is taking place within the Kahnawake Schools Diabetes Prevention Project and will inform furture interventions that promote healthy eating.
