Implementation of a primary school nutrition intervention : understanding how programs interact with context in the school setting

Implementation of a primary school nutrition intervention : understanding how programs interact with context in the school setting Programs in the literature are typically presented as static entities, ‘innovations’ which are state-of-the-art responses to public health problematics. They are seldomly described as entities which vary from their original design, from one location to another, in relation to the people that are involved. It follows, that implementation evaluations typically set out to measure how accurately or how completely the program has been delivered as planned. The over-riding aim of the thesis is to describe a program as an adapting system changing form in relation to the interests, experiences, values and exchanges of the involved actors and the school context. In this respect, it will describe the form of the program, its boundaries or contours, and the factors which influence how the form of the program varies from one classroom to another. The form of the program will be described both in terms of the representations used by the program interventionists, and the classroom teachers in addition to how these program contours are played out during the ‘practicing’ of the program.
